Unsafe Extension Leads
May 12, 2015Hi to all tradesmen/tradeswomen.
It’s getting wetter and it is very important that , with your and your employees’ electrical safety a priority, that you monitor your leads for exposed wiring.
The cable sheath commonly shrinks away from the plugtop or socket, exposing wiring to possible damage and moisture, creating a most serious hazard of electrical shorting and possible electrocution!
This can often be rectified by manually unscrewing the cable locking screw and, with a gloved hand, firmly clamp the lead several meters from the exposed end. Next, vigorously pull the cable through towards the exposed wiring plugtop/socket, thus re-gathering the shrunk cable to re-sheath it into the protection of the plugtop/socket. This method can gather back up to 20mm of cable sheath to re-cover exposed wiring.
I often do this for my clients as a free service, often without them being aware, as it saves them the cost of a repair.
